I’m going in blind as well with a Blast City being shipped to my place from KC.

He seems to be very easy to work with and contact when needed. Hopefully everything works correctly when the cabinet eventually arrives.

I got two Blasts from KC recently. Was blind buy but overall smooth and would buy from again. I think the biggest thing is for people to know, and be comfortable with, is you are buying a heavy used cab that was operated in smoke filled arcades. Especially for things like Blast City cabs. I like when people refer to the unique patina of their cabs from heavy play and real world use :)

Examples of things to expend the that I dealt with.
  • Whole machines needed cleaning inside and out. Like really really cleaned.
  • One of my monitors has slight burn the other is really clean.
  • One of my monitors chassis flaked out right away and I had to sent for repairs and a recap.
  • PSUs needed full cleaning and new fans.
  • Some screws missing
  • Coin bucket door didn’t have the right latch to keep closed
  • Control panel on one need some rust removed
  • One JVS plug was smashed and had to be replaced
Hope this helps some get clarity if this is the buying route for them.

You gonna join the 2930/1 chassis nightmare with the rest of the blast city owners? I have owned 5 of these cabinets, and ALL of them needed chassis repairs or maintenance. When the monitor works with zero issues the cabinet is amazing, but once that monitor goes out...man what a giant PITA.

I hear you there with the 2930/1. Love the cabs, but hate the chassis and the risk with them flaking out. Just important that people know what they are in for when they make the buy.

I've had 18 (eighteen) MS2930/31/33 monitors, all of them on location for roughly 5000 hours. Only one ever developed a major issue. The cabs came straight from Japan, almost all of the tubes with substantial burn in. So it's not like they were new when I bought them.

I'll cosign all of them having bad corner convergence, but poor reliability? Not so much.

I did buy a "working" 2931 chassis from Yaton and blew a tube with it, but that's beside the point.

Even the semi curved toshiba TV sets have that bad corner convergence. In my experience 2930 has been more reliable than 2931, but 2931 has a sharper picture.

Ive bought/shipped something like 7-8 cabs from KC now, its been overall good and I'll continue to buy from him. My additional advice for remote sales-
  • Ask to see them working with pictures if possible. He moves a lot of gear so unless you ask he may just grab the nearest one and ship it. The only bad experience I've had is one of the Blast I ordered had burn in so bad we have to replace the tube no, getting around it. I should have asked for pictures. He has tons of cab and is happy to grab another for you if one is trash.
  • Unpack and check for damage before signing the slip. STI shipping has not complained so far and is happy to wait. I didnt realize how important this is, one of my G-balances appeared to have been utterly destroyed and hid under the wrapping. I think the shipper is to blame, but KC ultimately made it right so we're cool.

On a side note if you're remote, what you see listed here is not all he has, hes just posting what he thinks is interesting. He had tons of Net/Blast whatever as well as non-cab goodys. you just need to ask and be patient with him.

That's great that the 18 you have never have any issues, but I was more pointing out that when these things do fail...it's not an easy project and usually requires someone with skills to repair.

The maintenance I was referring to was cap kit and black compound clean up. Most state that this is not an issue and it can be ignored, but then respectable people like grantspain say it should be cleaned up.

All of the chassis I have have 'the goop'. It's not conductive. It's just a pain in the ass if you want to replace any component that is covered with it. It's like glue.

Anyway, I just wanted to point out that this has chassis has an unfair rep. Yes, they're difficult to repair, but more than likely you'll get quite a few good years out of them before you run into issues. I certainly wouldn't advise anyone not to get a Blast or a Net City just because of the chassis. Honestly, if you want to avoid issues full stop, don't get a CRT cab at all.

new net city with a pf is the best crt around in my opinion. It would be my first choice.

New net chassis have their own sets of major issues too. Like nem stated, if you want to avoid chassis issues, get an LCD cab.

Wow- kinda hard to tell, but that almost looks like a pop'n stage on right of the 2nd pic. Really cool stuff if that's right!
