What's new
I'm starting to believe that error is related to the POT on the wheel that might need cleaning or changing.

Talking about changes, they are indeed a coming. Stay tuned :D
You don't think it has anything to do with the Steering board itself?

I have been told the newer and much more reliable STR3 should work on the older games but there's no documentation on wiring that up. I bought one, I should have it in within the next few weeks.

Also do any of you guys have experience replacing the speakers on the back seat? Mine sound fine, but I can already feel they'll need to be replaced sometime in the future, they have a very clear buzzing noise when the game is at a more quiet spot. Also what kind of speakers would I need?

4 screws to remove the cover and you’ll see ;)

Okay so I tested it for over an hour again with the other HDD installed and now 2 times in a row I wasn't able to replicate that weird Audio bug or the mini freezes/Longload time. I also doubled the ram and at first I didn't really notice any changes, but the longer I played the game the more smoother the loading seemed to get, the weird freezes after finishing a race were starting to go away and even pressing the gas in the attract screen was starting to get into the entry screen almost instantly. It seems more and more likely the HDD I was using previously was causing the issues and was probably just on its way out.

Finally got the right card reader.

you should be able to get it up and running with dupont wires - at least just to test it... and remember that you will need to supply it 5v, so what I did was run an extension cord (split off of the AC coming into the cabinet) over into the coinbox area so I could plug in a 5V power supply and run the wires up to it. the 24v and ground should already be there (but you will have to adapt) and the serial connector as well - different, so you will have to adapt.

There was some guys in a discord chat that said it should be possible to use the wmmt3 card reader on Mario Kart GP and the older wmmt games by flipping some dip switches, I assume that's not actually possible right? Anything you guys are aware of?

Well - I never tried it as I didn't think that a possibility. That would be pretty cool if true....
