Retro Scaler A1

ok not sure what I'm doing wrong I plugged in in jammafier my retroscaler I dont get sync on my splatterhouse. Is namco system 1 one of systems that dont work?
none of my games are working. Besides splatterhouse not getting sync my other games horizontal is way to wide

Monitor is a 2932 nanao.
Tested games here, https://irkenlabs.com/retro-scaler-a1/tested-sources - Namco system 1 not tested yet it seems.
I have a 2932 Nanao myself, so I know it's a good one. Is this monitor working ok with e.g. Naomi? Width is adjusted on the monitor itself.

You're using the scaler straight from the jammafier? - i.e. you should not use a tri-sync helper..
not using a trisync helper. iv tried to adjust the with the pots on remote but its too wide. is there a pot on chassis also? iv tried tekken 2 and m92 game all make he horizontal too wide. the gbs8200 doesnt and i can adjust the picture. not sure what im doing wrong. i am also using vga cables that i use for naomi with the missing pin is maybe that the issue?

It must be something simple, it's supposed to be plug&play - if Naomi is working, the scaler should be working.

I've only adjusted the width via remote. Did you update the firmware?

yes i sure did

Got a picture of the problem? If it outputs a stable (but too wide) image, it should actually be ok - i.e there are no parts or software inside I can think of that can fail with the result of the picture being too wide. On the other hand, if Naomi is working.. Need to have a little think. Got other monitors around with vga input you can try for the sake of troubleshooting?

Pictures seen - that looks like an output sync issue

3rd edit: is the picture stable, i.e. no rolling horizontally or vertically?

yes its stable

It's rather late (or early here), so will sleep on it. If you can, try a different monitor or cable. If you can send me the debug file of a game that's 'stable' I can check if it's something obvious, but if it reaches stage 4 (https://irkenlabs.com/retro-scaler-a1/detailed-mode-of-operation), everything should be ok.

To get a debug file, just create (an empty) file called "rsa1debug.txt", put it on a sdcard and power up the scaler with it.

Also, check power - I assume you're powering it from the Jammafier, then it's just checking that the 5V is not way off.

Quick update on my issue with crushed shadow detail on MVS MV1FS. It’s a monitor and calibration issue, not the scaler. A 17” Philips 107s PC monitor showed no hint of crushed shadow detail. I went back to my Naomi Universal monitor and made some adjustments. Seems like it helped a bit, so I’m a happy camper. :)

got it to work. I think its an issue with my connection. I do notice when its woring that the top and left side is off screen

Also a great and simple way to test the unit is to put a Naomi in 15khz mode and turn bypass to off. Yes I know the system is in 31khz normally but it uses a VGA cable so no conversions and I validated both modes work. You don't even need a sd card in to test Naomi, just let it load default settings.

is there a pot on chassis also?
There should be a Horizontal Size Limit pot on the chassis. It's possible it's set to too wide on your chassis.

The pot is marked H.S.L and it's in the row of pots on the side of the chassis. Try turning it counter clockwise.

its fine now @nem the width issue is fixed i think. it was something to do with my connection. i also got splatterhouse working but i had to set sync to scart

ok couple things fixed the super wide image for good. was my usb cable giving power to scaler. but splatterhouse still needs scart sync.

the usb connections arent soldered well and i can see it moving solder side. also my 5v pads arent soldered so i dont know if thats an issue.

Glad you got it working. Scart sync is not a valid trouble-shooting step or fix for Jamma boards.

https://irkenlabs.com/retro-scaler-a1/connect-a-source
"Warning: feeding the scaler TTL level sync while configured for scart sync for a prolonged time may damage the scaler"

The parameter does not change how sync is processed, but controls expected input voltage level.

For splatterhouse, which stage does it get to - i.e which of the RGB leds light up?

@invzim Running TTL its a solid red soon as i start it up and doesnt change.
Solid red means it doesn't see any sync at all, i.e. the same as if nothing is connected. Is this PCB ok otherwise, any mods or other things done do it?

remember my 5v isn't bridged on my jammafier that we talked about in email. would that be my problem?
No need for 5V via VGA on the Jammafier when using the scaler.
