What's new

Secondary memory card requirements (Soul Caliber 2 etc).

if you have the multi-dongle and the ODE then you have all of the technology to do it, it just needs a selector to actually make the change which Brizzo is working on.

Looking into the ODE option... but has anyone tried a DVD changer like a TEAC CD-C68E (CD I know, but I think there are some DVD drives with similar features. Could be wrong)?

OK, so following up on this. Turns out to change arcade boards in my setup I need to press and HOLD player one and two start, where as if I just tap them I can get past the secondary card missing screen and into the game. So I'm up and running (note the lack of a conquest id).

Bumping this thread. Was there any new developments to get the second memory card created on retail PS2 cards?
Just curious.

From what I understand, the second memory card is paired with the dongle. It works differently from a regular memory card. If you try to put the memory card into a ps2, it will say it’s unformatted.
Actually, the card isn't paired with the dongle. The data in it is stored as a RAW binary blob which is encrypted with the per card seed. Meaning that the binary blob for that specific card will only work on the card it came from. The sticker says "do not insert on a PS2 console" because the binary blob may be deleted if the card is inserted on a normal PS2.

Interesting, so that means if you erase all the conquest data (delete everything on the system 2X6 test menu) from a card and use it on a different dongle; it will work? Hope you understand my question though lol! I wish I kept my second SC2 dongles a little bit longer so I can test this theory. I could use my multi dongle and erase all my conquest data and try it in terms of experimentation. I wouldn’t mind trying it out.

Just make a new dongle (same region and version) and try it out with the data card without tampering with the conquest data.
The data card for SCII does not have a filesystem, the game may use a proprietary filesystem internally but as the data is encrypted I don't know how it works...

All I know is that moving the data to a different PS2 card makes it not work.
