SEGA Lindbergh Documentation + Preservation Project - Help needed!

New column added to page 1 table.

Keychip Preserved?

Given recent software releases, preservation of keychips is now possible without decapping. The table aims to track what's been backed up/preserved. There's a bunch in mame as well, those will also be added to the list. Please note: They will not be hosted here, and do not ask for them.

It's going to be a little tricky to document these as there's 3 numbers and they don't link up in any way.

Sticker on keychip: 253-5508-0438 >> Printed code on keychip: 317-0440-COM >> game code SBMN

Except for a few keychips that record the sticker number in their data, there is really no concrete link between these numbers, unless you have a confirmed validated original keychip.... and it's kind of hard to determine that, other than mass checking and comparing those numbers.

There should be tools available for everyone soon where you can write a small CF OS, boot your lindbergh with the keychip inserted and it will tell you what game the keychip is from and a bit more info.. The sticker and printed text on the chip are still going to important, the tool that shows you from the data on the chip will be the definitive info though.

That being said, we should still try to record the stickers and the writing on the chip, just for documentation sake.

Watch this space I guess, and again PLEASE DO NOT request keychip dumps here. You can check mame, which already holds some.

There may be some cases, where a keychip such as Virtua Fighter 5 identifies as SBLM, however not all disks work with all keychips that identify as SBLM. Their internal AES keys could be different. So they are all being marked on the list as working if 1 keychip is presered, but be aware it may not be the case and basically, real world testing is going to have to be performed and the list refined.

It would be great if anyone with keychips can assist with getting them all... documented, like with the restore media, we are going to need help!

In short, yes it means that if the keychip get preserved, and the recovery media (which a lot has already been done), then these games can live on for much longer. Especially on original hardware/cabs.

For now this info will live in the main table, i will split it out to its own table in the near future, as there's info to go along with each chip that needs to be documented.

I think SBLM is an exception and there are two keychips with BTID = SBLM. Other than that the 4 numbers on sticker should match the numbers on the chip silkscreen. If they dont something was done. Maybe only plastic case changed or worst case, chip rewritten.

Yeah, so it's important to document them, and i guess we can assume if there's silkscreen printing then it's correct, but ultimately its still a bit of a disconnect for 100% validation, other than just comparing the numbers across everyone's keychips and using that as a guide.

Either way, the tool for telling you your keychip info will tell us if they're different because the IV will be different, and it it displays that.

I made a tool that lets you ID your Lindbergh keychips and also create a file with all the info we can get from them.

Details here.

If you can help to submit any keychip files or info about them, PLEASE do help. IT DOES NOT GET THE AES KEYS. All info will be going in the table so we can put together as much info about as many keychips as possible.
