Sega System C2 conversions: all games patched and released

Oh my god. That's exactly what I meant. Only translating that mini game is worth the effort. Can I help you in something? I don't know how to access to graphics data, but I'm right kick in with your test.

It's fine. It's just a load of manual editing. There's probably like 25-35 hint texts. The Japanese text for the red hint (赤色です. "it's red") is 8x2 tiles. Tiles are 8x8 px.

It quickly dawned on me that there's no way to fit some of the hints on one line (like 下向きです, "it's facing down"). So I made a smaller font so I can have two lines of text. Here's a mock up of what it's going to look like:

Fortunately, I don't think there's a hint that only contains a single kanji? That would be a problem because you can fit a kanji in just four tiles (16x16 px), but try doing that with English text. Also, there's a lot of redundancy, so I don't believe any of the hint texts are a combination of two different graphics.

Anyway, I'll work on it over the holidays.

Leave it there! Arcade Projects looks great. I can't imagine what other text would fit better there :) :)

I finished a version of it. I'm not 100% happy with it. There was two problematic words. Two tiles are copied and mirrored in the middle of the graphics. It's funny because there's so much redundancy and then they save a minimal amount of space by doing this.

I have some ideas for it that I would like to try out, but I haven't gotten around to it. I also wanted to the check out the hack on an original board.

Thanks for your interest in it! I'll try to make time for it.

So here's an example of a problematic word.

ヨコです ("it's horizontal")

Here's the graphic for it with an overlay showing the individual tiles.

It's 15 tiles. 8 tiles on the top row, 7 on the bottom. That's pretty good. Plenty of space, right?

So you would think!

Surprise, bottom row third tile from the left is actually copied from the tile above it. Very clever Sega, you saved 32 bytes by doing that.

That means you have only have 2 + 5 tiles on the top row and 2 + 4 on the bottom, because you can't really use the tile on the top row either unless you want to copy it to the bottom as well.

And then when you start to think about it more, horizontal is ten letters long. It's a long word. Since I'm using a fixed width font (every letter is the same width), I can't even fit horizontal in to the top row, copy or no copy.

I can't be more grateful with @nem 's work. At last, I have played this game without killing intentions by falling in that mini-game. And more important, now I have this version on original hardware.

The version you have to use is Apocalypse's one and replace the 2 binaries Nem did. Also, in theory, this would be possible to apply in all the bootleg boards that exist, because the 2 modified binaries files don't contain encrypted info.
