CVS2 Naomi linked freezes

I have my New Net City (sega jvs io) linked to my Blast City (sega jamma to jvs io) and I haven't encountered this that I can recall. How long does it typically take to crash?

Which JVS IO do you have @notsonic ? Exact type number please.

Also for the others having issues, please state your mediatype i.e. gd-rom, CF or netboot.

If you are using CF or netboot, please provide the md5 checksum of your image.

Some potentially helpful data from me...

It's been a very long time, but some friends and I used to run 1-2 pairs of CVS2 on various combinations of cabs off GD-ROM for up to 8 hours, never had issues.
  • Capcom I/O to JAMMA, GD-ROM
  • Namco JVS I/O, GD-ROM
  • Konami JVS I/O, GD-ROM
I'm far from an expert here, but I was also starting to wonder if it could be some weird bug in the game itself that may be causing issues with certain JVS I/Os. The issue with the td-io is interesting, and I wonder if it is worth reporting as an issue to the project GitHub?

Okay time to try

Are you able to replicate the issue @nem on your setup ?

Yes, here:

I think it is reading correctly. Next time it freezes, I'll connect it again to see if I get any signals.

Nice now we are getting somewhere, just leave it connected and watch the data fly by. It has no impact since it's just a tap.

@Big_P Big_p which 3V3 regulator are you referring to ? Got a picture ?
The TD-IO has a built-in sic437a to provide 3.3v at 7A from the JAMMA edge. It's a bit like the Capcom I/O except it can run a netboot setup (if heatsinked)

Apologies for the bad picture with flux everywhere I am not at home and was taking that for another reason altogether, the SIC437A is the big black thing with flux all over it.

I have reported this as an issue to the project github

No updates, I switched I/Os with keiichi and it hasn't frozen on me just yet. Next time we have a long session, I'll keep an eye out to see if it freezes.

Which IOs are you using now ? Please tell us the exact model number.

It's a version 1.5. I don't know the exact model number as I'd have to open up the machine again to see it. Keiichi might know.

Greetings!

Im officially throwing in the towel here.I am at my wits end I tried all the following

1, Voltage - have had my volatges dialed in to 5.05v and 3.34v and I have upped it to 5.15 and 3.38 and it still locks up
2. Sega JVS I/o - I've tried the Sega Type 1, Type 1.5, Type 3 and they have all frozen
3. Media Type - I've tried GD rom, Net boot and CF Card, they have froze
4. Permutation - I've tried every permutations possible. Matching IOs for link , non matching IOs, voltages underlay dialed in. Various sun PSUs, all different game build rooms, etc

It still freezes. Ithe longerest I went was about 6 hours, and I would go check it every hour to see if the controls worked and it did, then when the community came in and jammed on it, it lasted 10 games and boom, locked out. this happened n all 4 of my NNCs (using the type 3 Sega JVS IO)

To answer questions, we have a very vibrant and active CVS2 community and we run them for for 6-8 hours sessions in the arcade and these freeze 4-5 times on average in that time period.

When I say we're stress testing it, I seriously mean it. I've sat here for hours on end with every combination and tested each set for hours with varying degrees of time periods where they would lock up, but they ALWAYS lock up

I honestly think this is a game code issue, as there is no other game that I could run (atomic, chihiro, Naomi) that exhibits this particular issue

Ive decided t move my Naomi set ups to my versus cities and run JAMMA io convertors since they don't freeze

if anyone wants to pick up the torch here, please keep me informed. I've literally sourced about 45 io boards spanning type 1, 1.5 and 3 to try and figure this issue out.

I gotta tap out, an insane amount of money and even more time have bee spent trying other figure it out and the anxiety of running it in my commercial arcade and when people are paying good money to play and it locks up is too much for me lol

The game hasn’t locked up on me yet after switching to the IO you gave me. I have my usb tap for the JVS signal for when it does lock up. I need to get that other nnc off of you and hook my net city up to head to head to replicate the setup. But mine was freezing on me before even as a single machine setup with maple adapter.
