What's new
I can't say much more with that behaviour. Are you able to try with another mobo?

When you first boot a multi slot it won't recognize the cart until it finishes booting. If you are switching slots and it goes back to not recognized after it was already recognized before that's not normal.

Also you are more likely to have minor gfx glitches on multi-slot pcbs. My theory is because the multi pcbs have the additional top board and TONS more logic chips and much longer traces for data to travel through and this affects the integrity of the data. It's usually just tiny horizontal lines that flash on screen.

I did not, but thanks for bring it to my attention.
I was using that method through trial and error. It works often, but about 30% of the time the MVS doesn't reboot and remains stuck on a black screen after the Multi messages (15m waiting but doesnt load). I did not check if the graphical glitches are less intense on slot 2/4, so perhaps thats already the solution to my main problem. I don't mind the "crash" chance.

However I'll dig through this thread to make sure Im not making obvious mistakes that I couldve avoided by just reading. Ill check my harness output as soon as the opportunity arrises

Small update. I haven't done extensive testing because the home situation is chaos, however I atleast got the following for the MVS4FT:

Harness output measured at 4.9V.
The multiMVS works in slot 1 almost 100% of the time, however results in (minor) horizontal graphical glitches among multiple games.
The multiMVS works in slot 4 about 30% of the time (3/10), however if I manage to get it to load it does not have these horizontal graphical glitches. It does have the following though:
- Some specific fragments of songs don't play or play several seconds later than normal. This seems to be mostly limited to intro's, demo's and endings. A non-problem that is solved by switching slots.
- "Randomized" demo's or arcade ladders don't work and result in the same characters / string every time. (to be honest the only thing I'm bummed about)
- I had a single random crash in Garou (out of about 3-4 hours playtime) with Freeman vs Benet.

The booting chance of multiMVS in slot 2 is quite low (1/10) so I stopped trying. It did not work for me so far in Slot 3.
Upon swapping slots, if the multiMVS fails to load I either get a black screen, or it gets stuck on the "reading game filesystem" message. If I recall correctly because the phone with the pictures just died. I'll re-verify the exact message this evening.
If it is successful, the multiMVS states "reading game filesystem" -> "Failed to load game filesystem" after which it loads the games and will continue to function until I turn off the cabinet.
Running diagnostics sometimes gives me a FAIL at "Filesystem". Sometimes, because it seems to be random whether it succeeds or not. Will play games even when stating FAIL.
The multiMVS has a significant freeze chance upon entering the Game list while in slot 4. Music will continue playing, but the entire menu will just freeze and remain non-functional.
I can use the hotkeys to swap games on the multiMVS, however the hotkey for returning to the menu doesn't seem to work and just resets the multiMVS back to slot 1.

I've checked the above with the following: Garou, Real bout Special & 2, Last Blade 2, King of Fighters 98, Pulstar, Blazing Star, Windjammers, Bubble Bobble, Metal Slug 3, Magician Lord, Crossed Swords, Nightmare after Dark, Waku Waku 7, ShockTroopers 2.
Garou is giving me the most problems, while games like Pulstar, Windjammers or Magician Lord give me no issues whatsoever.

I have limited soldering skills so re-capping/re-flowing the board isn't an option for me aside from replacing the battery. It however works perfectly fine on normal carts.
I can check whether it helps that I re-format the microSD that is currently in the cart, however looking at the rest of the thread it seems that this seems to be a 4/6-slot or multi-pcb problem?

Yup totally understand and agree, I'm considering the booting issue "normal". I can get the cart to boot reliably no matter which slot its in and I think if i could clear the a/v corruption it'll probably work fine. Its just getting the signal cleared up so that I can actually see whats going on. Still working on finding a donor system to try booting it in.

Let us know how it goes.

"When you first boot a multi slot it won't recognize the cart until it finishes booting."

I seem to be missing something.
If I just let the MVS system start up through the green scramble screen and then proceed to cycle through slots, I can consider it finished booting right?

So, that was a wild odyssey and ultimately it was my fault. I didn't know there was a special curated "Darksoft" set of MVS ROMs. But I figured why not try them. So downloaded the correct set, wiped my SD card again, and copied the set's /games/ folder over, loaded the cart in my MVS and...

It just works. Slot 1, 2, 3, 4 all work. It works alone or with other carts. It loads on the first cycle. The hot keys all work. It 100% works as advertised. Its perfect! Still wild that the wrong set of games would render the entire cart completely useless, but I'm ultimately just relieved its working.

Also, I don't know whose decision it was to include music from Top Gear but that's one of my favorite 16 bit sound tracks so kudos to whoever that genius was.

Yeah I’m having issues. It works in my 4 slot in any slot but not with other carts. All slots work but the slot the multi is in. It keeps cycling by it. Every slot works but not the multi. I’ve tried every combo. Nothing but disappointed.

Works great by itself or in a single slot

So the multi works in the 4-slot but only by itself?

Hi,

sorry to add my issue to this long list but I have received my MVS multi one month ago and I am just testing it with Nam75 on 2 MV1 slots.
After about 10 turns, the sound disappeared 8 or 9 times either on the 3rd stage or the last one.
Is it already known and solved?

My stuff is :
-MV1 with Unibios 4.0 (X2) and sound switched to mono
-Sandisk SDHC 32Go
-Sigma AV7000 with a 5V power settled

Thank you for your return.

This is not an issue with the multi as it works perfectly in many other motherboards. Usually the problem is related to the mobo and the power that it's drawing. Can you please send some pictures of your setup and your PSU? Can you try with another motherboard?

Please let us know.

Here you have the pictures of the mobo and the AV7000 power supply.

Else i can test on a MV1C...
