I'm getting "Error 22". First I thought it was the netdimm, but I noticed some broken/bent pins on the Naomi MOBO. I straightened everything out but it looks like the short pins may not be making good contact to the netdimm.

Since it looks like I need to repair these shorter pins, my question is:
a) is there a way to make the broken pins work that anyone has found, and
b) in the event that I replace the Omron connector, can I use either a Naomi cartridge OR MOBO as a donor? They appear to be the same, but I'm not sure.

I've fixed bent pins on a few NAOMI mobos.. that Omron connector is next to impossible to replace but not too bad to fix.

first take the mobo out of the case completely so you can get to both sides, because you need access to both sides of the mobo.

next gently release the plastic tabs on either end of the connector. this will allow the plastic housing to slide straight out. you'll then discover that each pin is essentially soldered independently to the mobo with nothing else holding it in place.

you can usually use some tweezers or something else to gently bend it back into the correct shape, be VERY careful not to hit any of the other connectors because you could easily fuck up the rest of the pins beyond repair.

once done gently slide the connector housiung back on being careful to make sure everything is aligned properly.

I suppose in the worse case you might be able to desolder a single pin and resolder a replacement from a donor, but that's definitely some mission impossible shit trying to do that without hitting any of the other pins.

Damn. So it looks like this board is toast. I was actually planning on doing the mission impossible bit with another board, but didn't know how difficult/tedious it might be. There are 4 pins that are literally broken in half (don't ask, I have no idea).

I just ordered another Naomi on Ebay for $70 and I'll keep this one for parts.

Going to be part of the club real soon!

Been gathering the stuff required for net booting.

I'm going to initially test with the good ol pc, then I'll look into pi force Web so I can use an old tablet (or my phone)

@oneleaf86 hooked up the bios, the net dimm is in transit and now on the hunt for an old pi3b

I'm at a bit of a loss, and am afraid of what kind of replies I'll get here:

So, my original Naomi was working with MvC2. I sold that cartridge and bought a 512 Netdimm to embark on this project. I kept getting Error 22, but noticed bent AND broken pins on the main board. I straightened them the best I could but was still getting error 22. I couldn't be sure when that happened, but since MvC2 worked I assumed it was damage done by me at that time.

I bought another working Naomi, installed the multi-bios, and am still getting error 22.

Is this netdimm dead? Is there anything else I can try? I've tried all different regions on the bios, partially lifting the cartridge, and other "obvious" things.

The only thing I've noticed is that my netdimm does not have the DB9 and SCSI connectors on the side. Do I even have the right netdimm?

EDIT: I'd also like to add that the New Net City's voltages are dead on (3.3 and 5.05).

There are 2 types of netdimm.
One is having the DB9 serial connector and scsi connector on the other side of the netwerk connector, and the other is only having the network connector.

And there is the normal dimm without network connection.

Did you "screw fix" the netdimm to the naomi? Other forums suggest it might be needed to ensure proper contact between the 2.

I have not yet, I do not have the screws. I considered taking all the casings off and putting it together that way to see. I also attempted to boot while putting light pressure on the cartridge. Do you know what thread/length screw are used with this?

I have the netdimm without the DB9 or SCSI connector.

Make sure your dimm's daughterboard is fully connected to the bottom board. It comes loose easily. Especially in shipping.
This was it! I got everything else setup and running, with one final problem: no input.

I'm running this through a JVS wired New Net City. It worked with the JAMMA harness before this, and the JVS setup before. Everything looks hooked up correctly, but no response. When I switched games (from Powerstone to Tetris), it wouldn't boot, and said "JAMMA IO NOT FOUND". I really don't think it's the cabinet.

Any advice?

As long as the usb plug on the naomi is not damaged and the cable is good you need to backtrack into the cabinet. Make sure the I/O is getting power and everything is plugged in tightly.

I've never seen an I/O error on a Naomi without the issue actually being the I/O.

Good to know about your experience with that error. Given how well everything worked I wouldn't have guessed the cabinet -- but I should never underestimate my ability to overlook something mundane. When I removed the JAMMA harness I forgot to connect the power back to the IO board.

Everything works perfectly, finally!

So... How do I go about permanently unlocking things like the MvC2 characters with this setup?

EDIT: I guess I have to scour for the "unlocked" version? What about things like free play? I put a new battery in the NAOMI, but it doesn't stay on free play.

Switching games will blank some game settings and unlocks, even if you have a battery.
As you said this is why we use the patched/unlocked MvC2, everything is unlocked from boot.

Got my netboot working! Yay!

However, I tried loading the three MvC2's I've got and all of them appeared to be loading just a "base" version and not the unlocked version.

1. MarvelVsCapcom2.bin
2. MarvelVsCapcom2_unlocked.bin
3. epr-23062a_hack.bin (not really sure what this one is)

Is there a particular setting/trick to make it work?

With Atomiswave stuff, are you just supposed load the game the same way? I'll keep playing around with it.

load a different game to erase the PCB memory and then reload the unlocked version. (MarvelVsCapcom2_unlocked.bin)
