Killer Instinct Dual Board

Alright, final PCB is here and tested. I spent all day Sunday figuring out what was wrong with my Kick harness. 1 day lost due to a few pins being crushed during crimping. Oh well. That's fixed and everything works fine, including the Fan, which is what this PCB is. If you're tired of soldering a fan to some location on these arcade PCBs, then this is for you. It's a 5V and 12V breakout to hook up standard fans. I believe most fans have the JST connectors to directly hook up without any modifications (like mine did but I needed an extension due to the way I routed my wire). I'm making a shell, of course, but with this completed, I will start getting some kits together for what I have leftover, along with a full writeup on this MOD.

Just wanted to update that the guide is coming along nicely. I'm 7 pages in and still growing. lol.
Here's a bonus that I made over the weekend to tide you over until all is done. Made a shell for the Power tap.

Another update: I have the guide completed. I'm sending it out to a few people to have it reviewed and get feedback. It took a while to get all the steps since it's a Start --> Finish guide rather than just a guide for a Kit. As for the kits, I have about half of them gathered and prepped (like half of each kit gathered; not one is actually complete yet...lol). Gonna try to get the kits all ready and complete along with pricing this week.

Good Evening everyone. I have created a new thread for the KI Dual Mod. Figured it would be good to have a new start on a completed mod. The link to printables will be there.

Hey so I just stumbled across this video...would something like this potentially be useful for this mod, and potentially for allowing KI2 to boot KI1?

Google says that U98 is a 27C401 so I'm guessing not, but also I don't know anything about anything.

no

for KI2 to run on KI1 the address space needs to be remapped, this can be done with game patching or custom CPLD code it has nothing to do with the ROMs

Hi,
Is it possible to loop the music in attract mode (using a patch, for example)?

Edit : https://github.com/nekuz0r/ki-rom
I burned 20351-ki2-l11.u98
I have the BootRom v1.1 menu on boot.
My dipswitch 6 and 7 are ON (S1) but the loop the music in attract mode doesn't works.

From my usage the boot screen would list it as "Attract volume fade patch" if it was enabled. Try burning a different rom?

I was able to successfully boot Killer Instinct 1.5d on my KI2 board using these patches.

I used MAME -debug and launched KI2 with KI2_L14K.u98.

I modded 0x8802a6d8 = 0x0000 like here and the musique not disparaite in Attrack Mode.
Great, but now I want to mod the ROM (.u98 )... :/

Wait so you were able to burn KI1 ROMs (and HDD image) and run on KI2 board? If so, do you have pointers? I'd love to be able to run KI on my KI2 (dual game mod is ideal, but just running KI would still be a win for me)

Hello guys,

It's been way too long since my last post and i have great news to share!
As zouzzz hinted, the website for the custom bootrom/multiboot hardware project is finally live: https://www.killer-instinct.net

The latest stable build 2.0.1 of the single boot variant is out now and ready to download!

On the multiboot side, the hardware is still cooking, but here's the exciting part: starting today, you can grab the 2.1.0-multiboot beta bootrom along with a modified MAME binary (Windows x64/arm64, Linux x64, macOS arm64) straight from the website!

Just hit the soft reset combination (UP + START + FP) to bring up the selection menu.

And it gets better, 2.1.0-multiboot beta ships with a brand new redesigned bootstreen and a completely reworked multiboot selection menu. I can't wait for you all to see it!

Give it a spin and let me know what you think :)

Hi,

mame-windows-x64.exe kinstmulti -skip_gameinfo
