What's new
Ooh nice, dongle free Tekken Tag 2? but still using a dongle for the T6 BR?
yep :). Tekken tag 2 has the dongle and memory dongle patched out or intergraded into the hard drive image, at least that’s what I guess as the system still does the dongle check boot noise. Tekken 6 still requires a dongle but I haven’t figured out how to make one so I used my original one that came with my original HDD. The hard drive security seems like it has been patched out. Without a dongle on the 357C, it loads up to the XMB, then a black screen followed by a 3 beep code error and it resets, no “USB DONGLE NOT FOUND” error screen, the system just resets until the dongle has been detected.

Hi!

Can you help me do the same thing to my 357C?

That's BAD ASS!

I got my 357C on Wednesday and loaded up TTT2U!

Worked like a charm!

Waiting on my Pi Zero so I can try 6BR.

I am going to clean up the 357C real good before I spin it up again!

Are you familiar with ES3 hardware?

Thank you! And I’m glad that you’re system as well as the TTT2U image file works! I don’t have the ES3 yet but hopefully I can get the system one day,I’m not too interested in it at the moment though.

Did you mess around with the System 256 Multi? I think that is my next project!

I do have the 2X6 multi but I haven’t bothered setting up the selector for it. It looks very interesting but I got other projects I would like to finish, just like the IR guns and a Multi Tekken arcade cabinet project ;)

Well, I got an update for you guys regarding my 357A. I have been informed that the RSX is indeed dying. I did find a replacement board but it was pretty expensive, I bit the bullet and bought it anyway and it arrived yesterday. So far, it works fine, just need to change the thermal paste and send it off for more precautionary maintenance.

Same model of 357A motherboard or just a from fat ps3 to trannfer the RSX Chip?

I bought a whole different 357 PS3 motherboard replacement that was confirmed working. The RSX is replaceable as it’s not locked to the hardware, meaning that the RSX can be replaced from another PS3 fat system. The CELL however, is locked by the system’s SYSCON and would need to be patched or rewritten to be accepted to the new motherboard. I don’t know anyone who could do this procedure for me and all the repair shops I went to (near my area) said that they didn’t have the proper equipment to do it.

Update regarding the new replacement 357 PlayStation 3 pcb. I actually decided to replace the thermal paste as I was under the impression that the board hasn’t been tempered with but to my utter surprise, it was. It already had new thermal paste and new thermal pads but something really caught my eye. This board has been serviced before as the IHS had new replacement thermal glue that was colored red and looks like the CPU and GPU were fully reballed. Now here’s the interesting part, the RSX has been replaced with a PS3 slim RSX, which runs cooler, more reliable, and more power efficient. I thought that was pretty cool. I guess this proves that the RSX can be replaced on a 357 PS3 motherboard. I have a picture of the previous 357 RSX IHS next to the replacement and another picture of my PS3 slim RSX. The replacement pcb also had some work done to it as well, an added tantalum capacitor, for the RSX. Who ever serviced this board did a mighty good job! I have also done the 5v mod on my pcb as I really hate plugging in the cable all the time. I did repaste the CPU again as well. I have also replaced the PSU with a refurbished one from a fat PS3.

Took apart my 357C a while back to take some close up shots, might as well post them here for future documentation:

Here’s some more pictures. Surprisingly the video/JVS board on the 357C has a code name “woodpecker” while the 357A/B doesn’t. Not sure about the 369.

Grazie! E sono contento che il tuo sistema e il file immagine TTT2U funzionino! Non ho ancora l'ES3, ma spero di poter ottenere il sistema un giorno, però al momento non mi interessa molto.

Ciao Tekken tag 2 per namco 357 grazie

Hi again peeps! I got ahold of another 357A board today and this time it came with the Tekken 6BL HDD and dongle, seems to be an older revision as I don’t see a 3.40 firmware sticker, I need to see what firmware this board has and I’ll update this.

I got it for cheap and it did have the YLOD. I was able to revive the unit by reflowing the RSX, I’m not sure how long it will last but it’s a good start.

Out of curiosity, since I had an updated 3.40 motherboard, I wanted to see if the myth was true about being able to downgrade and use different firmware HDDs. So I plugged in the dongle and HDD on my system and it did not work. It threw up an error stating that the HDD was corrupted but it wasn’t. The HDD still works and even has the original arcade custom characters data. Pretty cool. I do need to heavily deep clean this unit because it’s extremely disgusting. If anyone is wondering, the unit did come complete, just have it disassembled for testing purposes. :)

Edit: I forgot that I can’t check the firmware version on the early models as they don’t tell you on the error screen, on the 357C and 369, it will tell you the firmware.
