Naomi Pi 'WiPi Netbooter' - compatible with Pi 3&4

hi I just got a couple raspberry pi 3s and installed: assemble the 16x2 lcds.

Regarding the lcds, do I need to do any additional programming to get the text to display on the LCDs? (After burning and inserting the sd card of course)
No additional programming is needed on the LCDs; they are passive and controlled using very basic logic via the GPIO pins of the Pi.

You can read into how these LCDs work, here: https://www.electronicsforu.com/technology-trends/learn-electronics/16x2-lcd-pinout-diagram

Hi all, I just picked up a Netdimm setup with the Wipi Netbooter in a Pi3. I have been looking around but haven't found an answer yet and haven't made it through the pages here, but thought I would ask. Is there anyway to set games to freeplay in the WiPi settings? I have a candy cab I am running it in and getting to the service switches is a PIA each time I load a game to set it to free play.

I might just be missing it.

from what I understand - every time you load a new game, you need to go into the settings (service switch) and make sure the settings are set to free play. If I remeber correctly, sometimes that setting carried from game to game, but more often than not - I had to set it mostly.

Ah bummer, going to try and print a coin mech with some slugs to throw in there I guess to coin up :) I don't really have a good way to add a credit button to my cab. Thanks for the reply.

Yeah - I just validated - changed config in SC2 to be free play, then loaded up Tekken 4DR - and it didn't keep that setting, had to go back into settings and change it to free play.

Highly recommend @FrancoB ’s coin reject kits if your cab is compatible

The coin settings are lost when you start a game from another system. For example you are playing a Naomi game and switch to another Naomi game, the setting remain the same. If you then start an Atomiswave game you have to adjust the setting for this system.

Thanks for the quick reply, appreciate it. Just got the chance to take a look at it, and found this in the dimms.csv file:

Did as you said, updated it with a additional column called "cab", updated the entry in the setup, but it just booted to a screen "CHECKING NETWORK".
Deleted the entry through the GUI and readded it, but issue remains.

I figured I needed some additional values, as there are 8 column headers and only 6 values:

This did the trick:

Took a few tries to get it to boot like this as it kept overriding the "defaultgame" for some reason, but now it boots properly to the OSM, and I have controls via my Xbox One controller :)

EDIT: @chunksin the HotD2 ROM used, is it from this thread? https://www.arcade-projects.com/threads/games-fixed-to-work-with-dimm.1073/ Looking for a way to boot it to 15khz, but seems like it's not supported.
What does the "opentarget" option mean? I am currently trying to edit this file so my OSM will boot by default.

name,ipaddress,type,opentarget,defaultgame,openjvs,openffb,cab
Naomi 2,10.0.0.2,Sega Naomi2,off,menu,none,none,horizontal

Got this working with the code above. Still curious what opentarget means but not a huge deal. Thanks everyone!

I recently changed my NAOMI setup to be in a linked cab VS configuration, looking kinda like this:

1P: NAOMI Universal, NAOMI 2 with NetDIMM, cab’s built in Sega IO 837-13551-92

2P: Blast City, Capcom IO

Once I got the player assignments/node stuff figured out, games like MvC2 were playing as expected. I then tried Hokuto no Ken and was surprised (until I remembered it’s an Atomiswave game) to find that the controls were misbehaving. The 2P Blast City cab was controlling player 1, player 2 couldn’t be controlled at all, and in the test menu I could only see one node (oddly, the Sega IO, not the Capcom IO in the cab that had functioning controls). The test menu/service buttons also didn’t work. I couldn’t get both nodes to show up in the test menu until I switched back to MvC2, at which point things were back to normal.

Is this just expected behavior for these AW games? Is there a hardware incompatibility going on? Or maybe a simple configuration issue on my end? Would those “AW to NAOMI converted” versions work instead? Appreciate any insight anyone might have on the matter, thanks!

Hi everyone, I'm having a problem with the system: it restarts on its own after 10 minutes and gives me error 33. This happened to me before, but I can't remember what the issue was... does anyone know?
I've already tried a different Naomi, NetDIMM, Zero Key, network cable, and power supply—basically all the hardware except the Raspberry Pi 3+ and the microSD card, which I'll try replacing soon. Thanks for the help.

10minutes is suspiciously like the zero pic not working. Go into settings of wipi and turn on “time hack” or similar in the settings and that should fix it from memory.

Yeah, and this actually works now—thanks, nipple, I had completely forgotten about it!
