Adjusting with a mirror from the back actually works great with these cabs. Just place the mirror on top of the CP

Time for a update!
The Sanwa + Shanghai Novel combo have been giving me lots of headaches... The Naomi Universals that I thought where done, started having major issues , sooooo... It was time to do a full recap. Have you ever recapped a Sanwa 29E31S? it sucks and there is like a million caps...
Even tried to rejuvenate some tubes just for the hell of it, but it did not fix the problem. Jambo Safari had a fucked flyback, but luckily we found this guy in spain (technoservice) who makes a quality flyback that actually works with this chassis. Fingers crossed the Naomi lineup will look gorgeous soon.

I had some successful calibrations though...

Cool classic with a nice wells gardner k7000 chassis.
Not to bad... Lets make it sexy!

The Red gain pot was fucked, but fixed with a quick reflow and general TLC to the chassis. I think the results where pretty good 😉
Happy game!

Been a while since my calibration services was needed, but looks like it will be a great spring with lots of fun stuff to work on = some nerdy updates!

Today I had a date with Dance Dance Revolution
CC0CB737-AD48-4F47-B4E2-C4C5E25C192A.jpeg

Everything was working ok, but the monitor had some quirks to deal with.
The original Nanao tube had been replaced with a Wells Gardner 9400.
The 9400 has a OSD with a remote to calibrate most settings, but H. Size did not fill entire screen + the focus setting with the remote didn’t do shit. Time to open this big bastard up and see whats inside.

After removing some screws, I had some access to the chassis… Kind of snug, but doable.

After a quick look at the 9400 I found the awesomely place H size pot on this chassis.

Ok…. A little scary to adjust while it was turned on, but no issue to adjust while off. Cranked it to the max and had lots of room to adjust with the remote. The focus pot got some love and everything is looking snazzy!

Next up was the tube for a fully restored Donkey Kong cab. Chassis had been recaped, but everything was way off.

Let’s make it sexy!

Colors where way off, screen way to high, focus bad and I needed to adjust the convergence rings to make sure everything looks gorgeous and eye-bleeding-sharp
Long story short. Everything looks great!

F-zero AX… Such a fucking great game and a fantastic experience with the roller coaster-like motion in the seat. I felt like a kid again ❤️

A little dusty and could use a full recap after nearly 20 years of service, but produced a ok picture.
Will need to use one of my own Tosh-remotes to adjust some geometry issues and adjust the colors a bit, but all in all ok image quality After some minor adjustments to the focus and color settings. More updates soon!

I am really starting to love the fantastic Sanyo 20ez! 40 years old and still looks stunning after a recap and some minor adjustments.
Just a smidge on the convergence rings, minor color adjustments and some love to the flyback generated a lovely image!

Really digging the blue to black gradient not viewable (as far as I know…) in MAME.
Since it was one of Mr. Miyamoto first projects, it makes it extra special for a Nintendo fanboy like me.

All in all in excellent condition, but looked like one of the screens had been knocked out of position during shipping so it was a little off.

See the credit(s) at the bottom? No bueno!

Could not find any service manual online, but found out that I could adjust the left monitor a little by loosing these screws

After a little cursing and really minor adjustments, both screens started to align.
Looks pretty decent if you ask me!
Happy game!

Today I had 4x Mario Kart GP2 on the menu.
All of them was supposedly fully serviced and adjusted before shipping.….
Probably by an idiot.

The first one looked clean and in good condition.

I always open cabs up to check that everything is connected and looking ok before I fire them up. Removed the back to access the monitor and was greeted by this fucking mess….

What the fuck happened to this tube!?!?!

Chassis looked not to bad, so I tried to remove the worst of it, but most of the grime and dirt was stuck like glue…. Yum!

Tube works, but lost signal after around 5 minutes. Almost like it could not sync.
Also.. Everything looked like crap.
This will be a lot of work before I can eventually start my calibrations.

Not the hottest looking picture, but chassis and image was stable and not a lot of work.

After adjusting the convergence rings, messing with the flyback and using the extended remote to adjust the color bias and gain I got a pretty good result.

Number 3 was…. Just to dark… Really? Chassis and tube looked super clean.. Last revision Toshiba PF D29c451 with a clean matsushita tube.

Last MK for today looked ok. Some minor convergence and geometry issues, but tube looked clean and base image was promising. Too much green. Needs more red.

All the classic adjustments, geometry fixing, and lots of color correction produced a fucking fantastic image! Nice and bright, pinpoint sharp and gorgeous colors. God I do love Toshiba tri-sync tubes!
