So I started to work on this beauty with a tube from 1982! As old as me.... Looked great after some tender loving

Tube is starting to show its age and getting a little yellow, but after adjusting the gain on all guns, picture looked vastly better. Rock solid flyback still going strong after 36 years. Awesome!
Fun faq. Atari made a better test menu in 1985 than basically everybody in the late 90’s! A dream to work on!

Original Popeye by Atari. Only 2 were made for a trade show in London, 1982. As far as we know, this is the only one left. Even Nintendo does not have it....

Today’s project was this lovely cab.

All in all in good condition, but lots of dust and in need of a good clean before my calibration could start. Love the easy access to the monitor and how easy it would be to tate the shit out of it. Maybe Taito got inspired by Konami?

Orion tube with a Intervideo 15khz chassis. Should be interesting....
Colors where wack. Convergence off, contrast waaaaay to high a focus kind of fucked... Let’s make it pretty!

Cleaned the glass and put it back together. Lots o’ fun to be had for years to come. Happy cab!

Today I had my second date with Monkey Ball. Chassis got a recap by the local arcade-tec, but could have been cleaned a bit... Still dusty as fuck...

Sanwa chassis and Shanghai Novel tube.... Worst CRT-combo ever? Most likely...
Fired this bastard up and was greeted with this lovely image....

This is supposed to be orange....

I guess I got some work to do...
Did some quick adjustment to get some of the colors back on track, but it was a struggle... Damn Shanghai Novel...

Horrible grid and some weird horizontal issues. Had to change the the remote, but didn’t help much. I am really starting to hate this tube.

Even more adjusting later, tube was ok enough to start calibration, but conversion in the corners was fucking horrible....

Best to just rip out the old conversion strips and start with some fresh new ones but damn... The tube had around 19 original strips and they all looked like this...

Burnt to a crisp! Never seen this before... I guess the tube had been through some shit.

My own custom strips with kapton-tape will do the trick.

2 hours later, around 20 conversion strips, some loud( but creative) cursing and a really bad shock to my index finger (It’s still “sleeping”) We have this image.
Far from perfect, but the best I could do with this possessed tube.
Perfectly playable , but my CRT- OCD got a run for it’s money.

I fucking hate the Sanwa-Shanghai Novel combo!
