What's new

Pretty sure it is a boot:
  • Dot pattern missing on the silkscreen
  • Missing the serial sticker (no residue or any sign of it)
  • Text on the silkscreen looks off
  • Says "conversion" right in the listing title
I wonder if the glitch is from the conversion process somehow?

Wait, I'm so confused. He's selling a Deathsmiles for $1300 that's not original? Isn't DS like a 1300 game to begin with? Maybe 1500?

That listing is for Mega Black Label which is worth at least twice that amount. More if it's a full kit.

If what he is saying happens in MAME then maybe MBL in MAME is a bad dump? Surely this would be a known issue with MAME already?

One would think we'd know the dump was bad, but given that it's glitching on the converted PCB, it could in fact be a bad dump... it does seem like he's suggesting the real PCB doesn't have this issue, but...

Maybe there's multiple dumps out there, and they happened to use a bad dump for the boot? That'd be hilarious, but also if it's the only glitch, is it that big of a deal?

It’s a bootleg of Mega Black Label. A real MBL goes for much more than the vanilla DS.
Crap! Thanks, I knew I was sleepy and confused. MBL is worth a lot more so that makes sense.

Do you know if it's true those errors crop up on the real PCB?

Yeah, interesting.

Well, anyone with the real PCB care to chime in on what it does at that point in the game?

This is getting more and more interesting.

If you look at the auction it says the following:

---
This is Conversion not Original,
Tested all working,Only Final stagewith level999has image faulty,
See PICs,I also tested original pcb and mame also has this problem,I Don't Know Why?
---

He claims it happens on the original PCB as well as in MAME.

Maybe someone with some MSBL skills can verify that this happens in the latest version of MAME ?

is the sh3 chips the hardest thing to get and every other part is fairly easy?

Yeah if its busted in mame as well then it could also be the dump having a block gone bad prior to dumping

So the conclussion is that the game doesn't work properly on these clones. And he charges 1300 USD for a clone without the P3 connector....Too expensive if you ask me.
It's a bit complicated imo, but the tl;dr for me is that I think these bootlegs are awesome.

My understanding is that there is potential for sprite glitching, since the type of issue seen in that MBL can happen if you just take the raw rom from mame and write that to a compatible NAND Flash without remapping it to factory bad blocks of the new NAND IC.
For the most part, this will just lead to some graphic assets being messed up, as seen in that DSMBL, which yeah that's not working properly... its also something that is fairly fixable though, with not too much work using the instructions I made in the espgaluda2 repair thread. I know at least one other person who has repaired boards using those instructions without my help. Would obviously be a lot better if they just wrote the graphics correctly on the bootlegs but hey.

The missing P3 connector is unlikely to matter to anyone who just want to play the games. Even for people wanting to hack boards, not having it in place is probably better, since you can put something more normal there instead. Trying to clip probes onto the legit connector is pretty painful.

1300USD is pretty pricey though, but I mean... getting the boards reversed, produced and then sourcing the parts for it is definitely no small feat. And a legit AK/SDOJ/DSMBL is like 3500$+, so if you just wanna play the games... that is not that bad of a deal imo.

Bootlegs in general is a touchy topic for some people ofc, but I mean... I dont see how this is any worse than other stuff like CPS2 multis or whatever really.

Its cool more people get to play these games without having to spend 4000$.

I say this as someone with about 10 CV1000 pcbs, including a legit Akai Katana which I guess will be worth less now ;)

Seems like they just decided to do an assortment of 1000D games.
ya - we already had DFK BL. It really looks like a test run of all cv1000d games.
We now had all D games .. lets see if we get CV1000B next.
