I still think it's a simm issue but could be an issue with the BGA custom also.

To answer your question, yes, you could just swap the bios chip between the dimm mainboards.

the link for the 4.01 firmware is not working, can someone help?
Can i also get the link for 3.17 firmware? I will be upgrading from 3.01 and it is advised to go to 3.17 before 4.01
