What's new
As long as you choose the correct monitor type in vmmaker.exe, either Generic 15Khz or Arcade 15Khz (recommended) and generate and install the modelines, as soon as you enable the EDID emulation it will switch to 15Khz only - as has been mentioned this doesn't cover the boot process, I always patch the graphics card with atom-15 just in case.
Is your entire boot process with atom-15 in 15khz?

Mine seems to not be entirely 15khz as the CRT TV loses sync after the POST but then regains it after Windows has finished loading.

Is there any way, after the fact, to verify that the correct monitor type was chosen? Is there anything you could look at in the control panel settings or bios or anything that would indicate that all of the installation had been done successfully?

Went through this and it's working great! Are there any shortcuts to "escaping" back to the game menu without using a keyboard's ESC key?

Is there any sort of list management tool so I can go in and shut off certain games from appearing on the game list? MAME seems to have a bunch of junk appearing that isn't games (I'm still newish to all this MAME junk)

Thanks for doing this!

That's part of why I'm using LaunchBox as my front end. It lets you import MAME and then filters out genres you don't want, shovelware, mature games, casino games, etc. Too like 18000 games and curated the list down by like 80%. It's great. I could simply not imagine wanting to dabble in emulation without Launchbox's features.

It looks like holding 1p and 2p start escapes to the game menu!

I'm guessing you just put a dump of every MAME rom on the PC? That's... A lot of ROMs.

I'm unaware of any way to filter the list. I just added my favorite games to start and add additional games as i wish.

I installed a very large artwork pack so (pretty much) any ROM that I add already has it's artwork there.

You can configure the exit combo in MAME. The same way you configure the rest of the inputs.

If you install something that does not have exit key mapping you can use autohotkey to setup controller inputs that can map to ESC or ALT + F4 (force quit).

For instance, I installed Maldita Castilla which needed autohotkey to exit from the controller.

Yeah, I just copied a full set thinking there would be a way to sort/filter. I'll probably do the same thing you did and just copy over the stuff I want manually.

There is a romlister app included in the image on the D: drive called Lightspeed Mamelister, you can plug in the usual mame dat files and filter on genre etc. You can use that to either export a custom attract-mode list or just export the rom name to a txt file then run a batch/powershell to read the file and copy the required roms out to another folder.

I picked "enable windows interface" or something like that trying to get to the explorer to mess with the filter (No luck finding it) and when I rebooted, I am brought to the Attract Mode Configure screen, no longer the game list. Any way to fix this or do I need to start over?

Restore Windows Interface behind the scenes runs d:\attract\scripts\backout.cmd so if you exit out of attract mode, press ctrl-alt-del then run a new task of explorer.exe you can then browse to that file and double click it. Strange it didn't work though, have you modifed the image in any way?

Nope. I created a CMD from the Arcadeitalia site that filters down the games I want. I was planning on putting that file onto the mame computer via a thumbdrive (What is the path for the roms? C:\Roms ? ) I'm not able to get to any sort of desktop when I am outside of attract mode. If I ALT CTRL DEL I can get to a power option or "Sign Out" Maybe I just can't see the other options.

To get a Windows env, I do this:

Press u to bring up the menu

Enable 480i menu (this works without reboot)

Press u again to bring the menu back up

Select option to enable Windows desktop.

I'm sorry but I forget what the exact option is called and can't check right now.

Once I entered the windows mode, that is where I got stuck. It boots to Attract Mode Configure. The U Menu no longer works, I'll keep playing around with it.

So it never really enters windows mode?

Do you have taskbar or is all that still missing? I'm guessing it's missing.

This is what I would try if it was my PC...

You could try running explorer.exe from the task manager. It might bring up the taskbar, but I have my doubts.

You can also try running cmd.exe from task manager to get a command prompt.

from either - try navigating to D:\Installers and Instructions\Instant Sheller

run: InstantSheller.exe

Application to Shell - d:\Attract\attract.exe

Then select - I am ready! Do it!

A Reboot Windows dialog will appear. Close and and DO NOT REBOOT YET.

Run - "RUN THIS BEFORE YOU REBOOT!!!.reg" (I think this is necessary).

Then REBOOT.

That might put you back exactly where you are, but hopefully it resets something (again, I have my doubts).

It sounds like your installation is screwed up.

Did you ever set Read-Write Mode in the Attract Mode menu? I wonder if setting that would have helped you in any way...

If you are not back to normal and can get a command prompt - try running "MSConfig" and see what the startup apps look like. maybe disabling attract mode will help.

Good luck.

I'm just going to nuke the drive and start over.

I'm not able to see much of anything to even attempt getting into task manager, etc.

Appreciate the help!

Hi Chuncksin, first off thanks for making this image, i have an issue however. I am using a HD7750 card which is already ATOM 15 flashed so i could do all the steps nicely on my 15khz screen up until where i install the driver with option 3 for GCN card, it installs the driver successfully but upon reboot i get a scrambled image. i am using the arcadeforge umsa vga to scart , on the HD7750 i an connected to the DVI via a standard DVI to VGA adapter which then goes to the arcadeforge converter. It looks like the image does not sync . I can hear the windows chime sound so i believe the desktop is there but the TV stopped syncing after the emudriver install and reboot.

PS: i use the version 2.7 of groovytime, but i also had to download your version 3 files GroovyTimePlus3-00-00.mrimg as i had no usb response from keybaord and mouse with the 2.7 image mrimg files.

Try plugging it back into an LCD at that point, you might find you have a high resolution desktop until you apply the EDID emulation after setting modelines in vmmaker
