What's new

Need help with my Naomi 2 CF setup.

That's a typical Sun PSU setup.

The black and white cables looks like the normal Amp UP 3 way connector that should fit CN13 - that handles the 100V AC line.

The 6 and 8 way will go directly into the Naomi, but they normally come with extension cables so you have a little more play with the cables.

If you can somehow connect it all up, you should be fine for testing.

okay it looks as if i'm getting a much better reading here...

pin 1 is giving me 3.40v and pin 2 5.20v

how do i go about adjusting this guy? nothing externally indicates there's a pot to adjust.
i don't mind removing the shielding otherwise.

There should be pots

SUNPSU.png
i don't know how i missed that... but thank you for pointing it out for my blind ass.

okay update!
i can get pin 2 down to 5.1v but no lower... but i'm sure that's doable.
and as for pin 1 it doesn't go lower than 3.36v...

is this doable? or am i at risk? is there a way to adjust the pots even lower or am i screwed?

All you can do is try :)

*insert disclaimer here* :D :D

Btw.. 5.1v vs 5.01v is quite different :)

When you turn it on, you "should" be presented with the white Naomi screen.

oh jeez is it? i had a feeling..
so 5.1 is technically 5.10v then correct?
and the same for 3.3v? 3.30 essentially?

again, sorry for all the very basic questions..
i'm essentially self taught and normally just work with hardware mods. crafty with a soldering iron and really nothing else.

5.01v is 5.0v, 3.36v is 3.4v if we go the normal rounding up and rounding down :)

Don't apologise for the questions, questions is the way you learn and I'm feeling helpful in the thread :D

got it! that makes a lot of sense now.

and you have been so very very helpful, caesar. thank you. i was just telling my wife, "a wonderful person from sydney has been taking good care of me." when asked about the 'arcade board' situation.

i'm back home now and it's 11:30pm over here. so i'm going to have to wait until the morning to get back in the shop and cross my fingers while i flip the switch for another test.

you've been such a big help. my mvs needs some tweaking on the psu as well and i feel like i can confidently get at that now too.

thank you!

That's normal, since you have no load on the PSU. Both voltages will drop when you connect the Naomi to the PSU. So when you have everything connected and running, adjust both voltages again. I usually aim for 3.33V and 5.05V.

okay update!
Great news!! the N2 is working! both sound and visuals! (haven't tested input yet but..)

Bad news. ??? What's the issue here? I have the Key plugged into the net dimm with a game inserted...
Is this a bios thing? I feel like I saw my N2 had the B bios chip but I thought that was only an issue with the N1...
Should I go ahead and order one of those multi bios chips?

Okay cool I had a feeling that also might be the case. Thank you for the info, nem.

MVC2 will run on any region, so it's not a bios region issue.

Can you do a dimm test in the service menu?

so i can access the service menu...
however when i scroll down to where i know it should say dimm board test. it says rom board test.. upon accessing it it displays unknown game and only produces zeroes...
i've pulled the dimm out and plugged it back in snuggly just to make sure if the connection was loose or if the cf card was loose but i still get the same result.

I could be wrong, but I didn't think CF boot showed the memory check correctly?

Is there another game you can try?

Normally error 01 is due to the cart not being seated properly or an incorrect bios.

the dimm is supposed to be connected, from what I see the dimm is not being recognized by the Naomi2 remove the dimm, clean the white sockets of the dimm, the Naomi 2 and reconnect them

I've tried melty blood actress again, gunspike, mvc2, and ggxxac and all display the same error...
So maybe it is the bios? I checked and it is the EPR-B chip.

I have a few times and still nothing... It also doesn't tell me a game isn't connected. It says game not recognized.
So I don't think it believes there is no game at all.

I'm leaning towards a BIOS issue - but i'm only hypothesising.

Maybe someone from the forum can burn you the Naomi 2 bios from here:

https://www.arcade-projects.com/threads/naomi-multi-bios-fixed-with-proper-bootstrap.14842/

Where abouts are you located? I would offer to burn you a BIOS but I don't have any spare chips and I'm all the way in the land down under :D - it'd take a couple of weeks to get there at least if i sent it today.
I'm in Southern California just outside the LA area so definitely lol.
But I appreciate that regardless!
I found a listing on ebay that that looks as if they burn them on demand.. With many options as well.
It looks to be $20 which isn't a big deal to me who just wants to get this thing operational for my customers.
(and of course myself in the down time during weekdays heheh.)

https://www.ebay.com/itm/143235143582?hash=item21597ad79e:g:jnAAAOSwpeFa4Nsc
Which option am I looking for here? Naomi 2 Multibios 2020?
My Axun dimm also already has a zero key so no big there.

Safe to assume the 2020 BIOS is mathieulh's one.

That BIOS is coming from Spain, might be worthwhile to see if anyone in SOCAL can burn you a bios (or even in the US - it'd be much quicker than coming from Spain :D) - I'd create a WTB thread here if I were you before going through the ebay route. If you don't get any hits in a couple of days, then by all means go for the Spain route :D
