Darksoft Neo Multi Help thread

I have been trying Multi MVS on my MV1F boards. I have a MV1F and a MV1FS board. I have tried both stock bios and unibios. The MV1F has a rechargeable lithium battery and the MV1F has no battery. On both boards the system RAM has been previously wiped before installing Multi MVS Darksoft, it has been correctly updated following the instructions both in the Menu and in the latest Firmware. The power supply is the same. The MicroSD is a SanDisk Gold HC A1 U3 high speed original Sandisk. Edit: This not remomended micro SD model for Multi MVS.

1. Testing with MV1F is that Multi MVS almost never boots and it freezes trying to boot. In the unlikely event that it boots, I can choose games but when I move quickly through the menu, small lines appear at the top of the screen and in the menu text. If I stop browsing, the small lines disappear. If I'm lucky the Multi MVS boots up and I can choose games but none appear, it just stays on the green game start screen and restarts in a loop. I haven't been able to load any games on this MV1F with Multi Darksoft and instead all the original cartridges play perfectly. I wouldn't want to have received a version that isn't 100% compatible with the MV1F bases for some reason.

2. Try MV1FS. This always boots Multi MVS but still has the little lines in the menu when browsing. It allows me to load and play many of the games I've tried and others don't work at all like Galaxy Fight which when starting a fight it gets corrupted and resets so you can't play it. KOF 98 has audio issues because the music sound Rom loads other random songs and voices in the middle of the game which is annoying. Other games like Alpha Mission 2 have sound feedback on the drums and Blues Journey has the same issue giving a somewhat crackly sound. Some other games randomly lose the music and it doesn't come back until the next sound Rom load which is very annoying. When I load the second game load, be it one game or three regardless of their size, the Multi MVS freezes when checking or loading games which is frustrating because it forces me to turn the power supply off and on with no guarantee that it will load the next game or selected games again.

MV1F Motherboards they are my favorites.

can you show us a picture of your setup? Did you check the voltage on the cart connector? what is the voltage there?

Can you show us your microSD? Did you try with another one?

I will do all those checks and report back. I would like to confirm that my Multi MVS Darksoft is the latest Hardware version as it happens with MVS MV1F models, I would like to confirm this.

I am still having trouble with my 2 slot. I was going to buy a 1 slot because I heard that the multi runs better on them, but now I don't know what to do if MVS-CPS is having the same trouble with his 1 slot pcbs. Should I try to recap my pcb or is there any other common issues with 2 slots to check?

About 150 carts have been shipped with perfect experience in most cases. You're running a cart that takes more power in mobos that are over 30 years old. I can confirm that I have tried that in almost any model and it work flawless, otherwise we wouldn't have released it as it was. This is the 3rd batch, btw., some people had the wrong content on the microSD, some other had a bad PSU or bad mobo, but we will provide support until we get it working. I personally use a 1-slot as it takes less power. The shorter the PCB, the better as power doesnt get spread in the length of the tracks.

I recently got my multi mvs and am running it with a mv1fs. I am having issues with the sound however where sometimes random sound effects play, its playing fine then the sound cuts out randomly or fades out when its not supposed to and plays random noises. I am getting 5.3V and 12.3V on each line respectively. Any idea on what would cause this?

I have no doubt that the multi is fine, I would just like some direction on what to do/check to try and fix it. My power supply is new from Twisted Quarter and the voltage is set to 5.08 at the jamma harness. What is the maximum safe voltage I could set the p/s to? Should I recap the board? Any other suggestions? I'll do everything I can on my end to try and track down the problem, I just need some guidance. Thanks

The best advice is to try it with other motherboard and microSD from reliable source, so you are sure that the problem doesn't come from there.

5.3v is too much in my opinion. Test between 5.00 and 5.05.
I had it dialed in to exactly 5V and it still randomly cut out. Whenever it cuts out often sound effects will still play just not the main track. If I try to force it to play a main track through the unibios it wont do it.

Try to lower the power down to 4.9, 4.8V, 4.7V and see if it improves. If it does, then it's a sign that some components in the motherboard are not in good share and draw too much current. Lowering the V, lowers also the current and makes it work again. @l_oliveira

When I lower it to 4.9V it works mostly but still has random cutoffs where the sound stops. When I put it at 4.8V I don't get any sound stopping but I get visual artifacts and it randomly resets. Any ideas on a fix?

Thanks for the picture. Do you think that you can remove the 4 screws and show us the actual motherboard. I can only see the plastic shell.

Also if you still have the original BIOS, can you try and see if that changes anything?

How does it work on the MV1C ??
Tonight, I did 2 tests :
- Multi MVS on MV1C : worked fine without any sound cut ;
- original Nam75 cart on MV1 : worked fine too.

If the power supply is the problem, does it mean that the Multi MVS is only designed for the shortest slots like MV1A, MV1B or MV1C?

Best regards.

Some motherboards, specially large ones, either have some significant power drop due to old.components or limited capacity of some components. If the cart draws too much power that can happen. One way to solve it is to change some components to allow more current or take the 5V directly from Jamma to the cart slot. The most obvious solution is to use a motherboard that doesn't have those problems and call it a day.

Bios didn’t change anything. I am potentially thinking maybe this is a motherboard problem not a cart problem as now I get no sound at all and even in bios testing the sound doesn’t play. There are also some missing components on the bottom of the board that could be suspect

I plan on doing a recap on the board anyways (cap kit on the way), and will use that time to inspect the board more thoroughly and will likely re-flow cart connectors while I am at it. If that doesn't work I will look into acquiring another mobo since I don't have access to another at this time.
Just wanted to provide an update on this, did a visual inspection, recap, re-flowed all connector pins for MV1FS, MVH and cartridge, no change in behavior with the MultiMVS cart. I will try to source another board like a MV1C to see if this resolves my issues.
