ANNOUNCEMENT - MMS1 - A 16 in 1 MULTI FOR JALECO MEGASYSTEM1(A) FROM CAIUS + HAMMY

Overclocking tests in hw 12mhz clock + 12mhz part fitted.

EDF - smooth
Big striker - no boot :(
P47 - no boot
Rod land - smooth but story text screens run too fast, gameplay crashes with address error
Plus alpha - too fast! , IRQ "lines"

Seems like the hardware cannot handle it , hence why the board revision.
RAM/ROM chips are all good speed, and no other clocks are adjusted.

I guess bump it down to 10mhz and try again. And then 8mhz if that's no better.
Jaleco maybe did this originally and ended up @ 6 haha
 
Awesome work! Can we fit 12mhz cpu and bump it down to 10mhz then? I have some 12mhz laying already.
p8 MAY run at 10, it's not that big a jump - i only went greedy going for the full 12mhz first.

Mod is easy, lift pin 4 on the HC04 same as before, fit 10mhz osc (or better a socket) in empty space + wire power pin.
Run wire to clock pin. Easy

big striker runs fine @ 10mhz!

HOWEVER!!
With a Motorola P12 chip i was getting random crashes, ST 68000 P16 chip fitted - no crashes.
Maybe a duff chip from my supplies but be careful, and if there is crashing, change CPU.

The P16 is also getting quite warm , but not quite as bad as they do on things such as sunset riders etc.

My order of eproms, sockets and crystals etc... arrives tomorrow. Hope to do cpu swap sometime soon.
 
I'll spoil you with another WIP but it's eye candy only.
Please DO NOT ASK about this, it will be a slow burner / side project.

Game was cracked easy after doing big striker and my I.O code was also re-useable so saved some time there.

Along with the sprites bank we don't have (that contains the bosses)
Sadly this one uses calculated addressing for the object ram, pallet ram and as you can see in the screenshot, one of the scroll layers too.
It's hopeful, but it will take a long time. (and then the sprites 2 will still be an issue)

I expect cybattler and chimera to be WORSE as they are newer and will have more nasty tricks.

EDIT: First post updated a little, big striker now sits at position #16.

Eproms came in, not as bad as I thought for being used. Recovered from Touchmaster pcbs. besides the glue residue, they are almost like new.

Still need to grab the mcu and socket and 10mhz oscillator . Your eeproms looks great 👏🏻✌🏻

Recovered from Touchmaster pcbs.

Did they get dumped? I guess not. That sucks and i don't encourage buying from people doing that.
So a bunch of undumped versions have probably gone, touchmaster rare to come up and lots of versions.

You probably got them from ebay or similar "ready blank" and had no control.

I'm also disappointed with the amount of M72 multi's out there, and LACK OF MCU's sent for dumping.
Same with the system 16, i bet tough turf is still not dumped.


Man makes a multi that does no damage and frees up the other stuff... what is the point in the exercise if nothing goes to good use.
Things like this and the raise in NOOB DAMAGE is why i don't work on "non-romboard" systems / mods anymore
Tired of seeing stuff lost and destroyed.
